JENNINGS COUNTY — Twenty-one up and 21 down.

That is how Wednesday’s outing went for Jeffersonville pitcher Chandler Dale. Dale pitched a perfect game leading the Red Devils over Jennings County 8-0.

“He was phenominal,” Jeffersonville coach Derek Eillis said of his pitcher. “Any time you throw a perfect game — let alone a no-hitter — that’s impressive. I’m very proud of him.”

Dale pitched the second perfect game in Red Devil history. The last was thrown by Bill Dempsy. Dempsey did it against New Washington in an 11-0 victory in the 1969 Jeffersonville Sectional championchip game.

Dale was absolutely dominant with his performance. He struck out nine batters and stayed perfect despite the pressure of a scoreless game through five innings.

“We started real slow for Chandler,” Ellis said. “We weren’t giving him any support and weren’t even getting runners on base. He continued to throw well and we were finally able to break through and put some runs up for him.”

Jeffersonville’s offense broke loose in the sixth inning, scoring four runs to give its perfect pitcher a lead. The Red Devils then relieved any remaining pressure on Dale with four more runs in the seventh.

Dale also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, a run and an RBI. Drew Ellis drew three walks and scored twice. Nolan Fertig added a 3-fo-4, two-RBI performance.

Jeffersonville will try to ride its momentum into Saturday when it hosts a strong North Harrison squad.
