Jeffersonville senior infielder/pitcher ian ellis will continue his baseball career at Olney Central College in Olney, Ill. next fall.
In his senior season, Ellis batted .321 and knocked in 17 runs at the plate. As a pitcher, he struck out a team-high 53 batters and had a 1.91 ERA.
“Ian is a great kid to coach,” head coach Derek Ellis said. “He is very passionate about the game. He is a great leader and works extremely hard at getting better every day.”
For coach Derek Ellis, Ian’s signing hits a little closer to home, as Ian is the second of Derek’s three sons.
“I’m going to miss coaching him because of all the energy and enthusiasm he has brought to our team over the past three years,” Ellis said. “He is one of my all-time favorite players and an even better son.”

Jeffersonville’s Joe Burke recently announced that he would sign to play baseball collegiality with Kentucky Wesleyan University. Following in the footsteps of his brothers (Sam, Josh and Jared), Burke signed on to play for the Panthers. During the 2015 season, the Panthers notched a 32-18 record before falling to Trevecca in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship. For Burke, the offer to play collegiality didn’t come as a surprise, as the now-senior tore up the diamond in 2015. Burke led the team in batting average (.475), hits (38), home runs (2) and runs batted in (29). He also started six games pitching, posting a 2-1 record with a 5.03 ERA. The Red Devils finished 10-8 on the season. “Joe has been an absolute joy to coach. I have had the pleasure of coaching him since he was 9- 10 years old,” head coach Derek Ellis said. “Watching him grow as a baseball player and a young man has been a blessing and very rewarding to me. I’m looking forward to Joe having a great senior year and excited that he will get the opportunity to continue his career at Kentucky Wesleyan.”

CAMPBELL SIGNS WITH OLNEY

Posted by Red Devils Baseball at Jun 16, 2016 6:14AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Jeffersonville senior Drew Campbell recently signed his national letter-of-intent to continue his baseball career at Olney College in Olney, Ill.

Campbell is a News and Tribune first-team All-Area performer and one of three finalists for the NTSPY Player of the Year award.

“Drew Campbell is a fun player to coach,” Red Devil coach Derek Ellis said. “He works extremely hard and his effort is unmatched by most on the team. He is a great athlete and is in great physical shape. Pound for pound he is probably the strongest kid in the school.”

On the field, Campbell’s skills fall under more categories than not, becoming an extremely versatile player for a 2015 team that went 19-8 last season. As a senior, he batted .412 with eight doubles, eight home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 30 runs for the Hoosier Hills Conference champions.

“Drew has all five tools to be a great player at the next level,” Ellis said. “Coach [Dennis] Conley will love him and no one should be surprised when he is playing at a [Div. I] school in a year or two. I’m excited for Drew.”
