JEFFERSONVILLE — The Jeffersonville baseball team started its season on the right foot on Friday night by defeating perennial state power Fort Wayne Carroll in five innings, 10-0.
Red Devil senior Mark Meyer pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out seven and walking two.
“Mark did a decent job. Once he got some first-pitch strikes, he dictated the at-bats,” Jeff coach Derek Ellis said.
The Class 4A No. 2 Red Devils jumped on the Chargers early, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. Ellis thought it was a solid opener for his troops against Carroll, which won Class 4A state championships in 2010 and 2011.
“We’re very pleased,” Ellis said. “It was a good win against a great team. We swung the bats extremely well.
